Tata Indigo Manza – Design speak (Exterior)

We all know Indigo theme in the Tata family is the sedan version of the hatchback Indica. Indigo Manza is no different. It is indeed the sedan version of the much improved version of Indica, the Vista.

Up front, the clear lens tripple barrel headlamp looks beautiful unlike the one in the Vista in which the side crease extends up to the headlamp. Manza headlamp looks attractive with side indicators neatly incorporated in it. The chin gets a better treatment with a wider air dam. The simling grill which was beautifully designed by the IDEA of Italy for the Indica has given way to much squarish looking of Vista theme. Though I feel the grill design could have been better designed, we expect to see such things happened during the evolution of a car. Unlike the Vista , Manza do not get a honey comb grill but gets a distinctive and bold chrome plated horizontal lines which ads up to the large car image of Manza.

Though Manza is an extended version of the Vista you can hardly make out the boot beign attached to a Vista chassis. Tata engineers have done a brilliant job in styling the C pillar of Manza which is more rakish to give the feeling of continuity. Remember the earlier Indigo suffered C pillar design, which gave an impressiono of the boot being sticked to an hatchback. The Manza C pillar reminds me that of a Merc, and why not “all good things resemble somewhere or the other”.

Coming to the rear of the car, it gives you an impression of the big old US sedan. The tail lamps try to mask the boxy look of the boot but to some extent. The boxy boot can still be felt inspite of some hardwork to mask it. The tail lamps extents from half of the boot and nicely incorporated on the extremities of the sides. The number plate scoop reminds you of that of the old indigo.

Overall the Manza has been designed with lot of thought and hard work. Manza may not be the stylish sedan on the roads but it is definitely the worth for the buy for all the goodies it comes with.

Facelifted Logan to be launched by early next year

The Mahindra-Renault JV may be in a bad phase but the very first baby from the JV is getting ready for a new innings. Expect the facelifted Logan to be launched by the early next year. The facelift was much needed as the sales of the Logan has drastically come down and is selling mostly in the taxi segment – thanks to Meru/Easy cabs.

There is notable changes in the new Logan. The bumpers are sleek, grill very prominent and little wider, clear- lens headlamps and modified tail lamps. There are some changes in the interior as well in the form of richer centre console, new dials, good looking switches and two-tone interiors. The new Logan is expected to be priced little higher than the current model at Rs 5.1 lakh (Ex showroom Delhi).

Scorpio gets the much needed safety features

Mahindra Scorpio might be the swanky SUV everybody would like to own, but let me tell you it is the most unstable SUV in Inida. I myself has seen four Scorpios roll out on the highway, thankfully no casualities, with jus minor injuries to the passengers.

Though late Mahindra has realized the need for the safety features in its highly successful Scorpio. Mahindra has upgraded the Scorpio VLX version with some additional features. They include dual SRS airbags, new twin dial instrument cluster, bluevision bulbs in headlamps, Bluetooth connectivigy, built-in tweeters for front speakers and speed warning alert. This comes with a price hike of Rs 10,500/- compared to earlier model.

Speaking to the reporters during the India Economic Summit, Renault Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn made it clear that they are not her to sell one specific car but want to bring its more models and contribute to the development of Indian market.

This comment by Mr Ghosn comes during the time when the company has not sorted out the differences with the partners in the country. Few days ago Mahnidra-Renault JV was strained with the Indian partner threatening to pulling off. Renault also had some differences with Bajaj Auto regarding pricing of its Ultra Low Cost.

Currently Renault has JV in India with Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland and Bajaj Auto. Renault along with its partner Nissan is investing Rs 4000 crore in Chenna for setting up a passenger car facility.

The cars like Renault Scenic, Sandero, Clio, Twingo and some LCVs may make its way into India soon.

Automakers eye hot MPV segment in India

After the super hatchback segement now it’s the MPVs which are in the thoughts of Automobile manufacturers in India. We saw the Mahindra Xylo being launched a few months ago. Thanks to the Innova for creating a class MPV segement. And now soon to be launched Tata Indicruz/Xover is also an MPV to rival the Xylo and Innova.

Toyota Picnic
Well we have talked three vehicles in the MPV segment and let me tell you there are much more models to come. Suzuki might launch the Landy which we had mentioned in our earlier posts, Toyota is getting ready with the Picnic which was spy photoed near Bangalore. Now Nissan do not want to fall back. Its NV200 van was being tested near Bangalore and is expected to be launched shortly.

Tata Indicruz/Xover
Well don’t you think these are too many in the MPV segment. Whatever we the customers are the winners, we have got a choice ot choose. Long live the Indian consumer.
